Create a high relief clay tile design of an animal or mythical animal.
Make two copies of your design the exact size of your tile.
Sizes
5"x 5" or 5"x6" or 7" x 4"
One will be to transfer your design onto your clay. To make your transfer paper, simply take a water-based marker (not a sharpie) up to a window or lightbox and trace the design in marker on the back of the paper.
When you roll the clay out, put the marker side down and it will transfer onto the clay forward. This will aid you to know where to add or subtract clay to make your animal.
Second design is going to be done in full color to help you plan the colors and tones of your animal tile.
1. Draw design in pencil. 2. Trace deign onto the back of the paper with a water based marker. 3. Trace onto another paper so you can color the second copy.
Your black marker lines will transfer onto the clay when pressed on, so you can see where your animal will go. Most pens do not transfer as well as marker.
When done creating with the clay.
Hollow out the back so your clay is not too thick in any areas.
While clay is being dried and then bisque fired,
color your good paper design to plan for your paint or glaze.
Animal Tiles
or
Mythical Animals Tiles
Colored with oil pastel and antiqued with black tempera paint or India Ink.
Antiqued lion without oil pastel or glaze.
Glazed Tiles
Glazed animal tiles require the tile to fired a second time in the kiln.
We do not have every color of glaze.
All glazes are not gloss.
Some glazes are matte and do not shine.
Most glazes do not mix like paint!
They are chemicals and you do not know what color you may get if you mix them.
Some glazes such as the "Teacher Pallet" brand have the colors pre-fired so you may mixed them to achieve different colors like paint.
